Generator Step-Up Transformers
Seattle City Light

Seattle, Washington

STRATEGIC PLAN

Seattle City Light owns and operates four hydro generation plants on the Skagit and Cedar Rivers. The Ross, Gorge, and Diablo plants represent most of City Light’s generating capacity; Cedar Falls is a much smaller plant.

The transformers at these plants are a mix of three-phase and single-phase units, at 115 and 230 kV. This project applied a risk-based methodology to develop a comprehensive and optimized replacement and spares plan for the generator step-up transformers at all of the plants. The results of the study were as follows:

The recommendations stemming from this project have been integrated into the capital plan for Seattle City Light.

Date Completed: 2001

Highlights
